It all started here...

South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union.  Much of that history made was right here in Charleston! ​ Come join us on this Civil War in Charleston walking tour.

 

At the secession convention of 1860, South Carolina became the first state to secede from the union. This led to Charleston getting the nickname the 'Cradle of Secession',  and becoming the epicenter of the break-up of the Union.
